2014-2015 Case For Support:  Dress For Success Career Closet

Help us help students: “Look Successful, Feel Successful, Be Successful”

LHU’s Career Services’ Office seeks to support students through all aspects of internship and job search preparation, and we encourage them to set a positive first impression through their attire.

During the summer of 2013, we built a “Dress for Success Career Closet. It is important for students to look professional when they enter the professional world. The Career Closet is designed to help students who are in need of professional attire for an interview, career fair, networking event, office visit or presentation.

Through this service we want to help students look their best and make a lasting positive impression. Clean, gently used or new professional and business casual attire and other professional accessories are available free of charge to all currently enrolled Lock Haven University students. Students may receive one outfit over the course of their students at LHU.

We seek year-round donations to increase inventory for the Career Closet. Items needed include men’s and women’s suits and blazers, slacks, ties, dress shirts, blouses, skirts, jackets, shoes, belts and briefcases. In addition, we seek financial support to help us increase and maintain inventory allowing us to provide this service to all LHU students.

2014-2015 Case For Support:  Student Enhancements

College provides young people with the ability to choose a future rich with possibilities- to secure good jobs, advance in their careers, achieve economic independence and build important social networks.
Lock Haven University is committed to providing a broad and diverse academic student experience by enriching the academic, social, cultural, and personal experience of each student as it strives to instill enthusiasm for life-long learning while maintaining the core principles of the institution.

The following areas have been identified by University leaders as areas of philanthropic need for enriching the student experience at the Haven:

Internship Stipend Program……………………………................………………$25,000, supporting 12 stipends
The Internship Stipend Program provides LHU students with the opportunity to gain valuable experiential education without sacrificing needed income. Donors to this area provide monetary support for undergraduates who secure internship opportunities to investigate career options, further develop career-related skills, and link classroom learning to the world of work. These funds enable rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors accepting non- or low-paying summer internships, to participate in career-related experiences, regardless of financial constraints.

Undergraduate Research………………………………………………………………$10,000 per year
Lock Haven University recognizes that not only is undergraduate research a critical component of undergraduate education, it is also a beneficial instruction for our next generation of students as it fosters effective, high levels of student learning, including the knowledge, skills, and dispositions critical to academic success. Donors to this area of student enhancement will provide funding for undergraduate students to participate in research and additional educational opportunities such as access to research materials, travel fees to conferences to present research outcomes, guest speakers, presentations, external lab fees, etc.

Digital Media Learning Commons………………………………………………...$10,000 per year
Librarians today are expected not only to help students and faculty find and organize information but also to help them present that information through audio and visual media.  The Digital Media Learning Commons (DMLC) will be a media production area where students and faculty will be provided with equipment, creative space, and instruction for video, audio, and photographic projects.  The DMLC will include a “One-Button Studio,” a simplified recording set-up that will enable students and faculty to create a high-quality video recording with the touch of a single button.  Sound-proofed workspaces will be constructed to support a range of media projects, such as MIDI-based music production; non-linear video editing; green-screen recording; and more.  The DMLC will also include a “Wall of Fame,” where a sample of student media projects will be prominently displayed (e.g., freeze frames captured from a noteworthy video project), and a Distance Education Faculty Learning Lab, where faculty can learn various technologies for delivering online instruction to their students.

Student Scholarships
Each year, Lock Haven University administers 190 individually named scholarships, impacting more than 500 students, by providing them with financial assistance to achieve their educational goals. Lock Haven University knows that student scholarships can provide students with a better opportunity to succeed at The Haven and is committed to increasing the number of student scholarships it is able to provide to students.

2014-2015 Case For Support:  Student Scholarships

Each year, Lock Haven University administers more than 280 individually named scholarships, impacting more than 500 students, by providing them with financial assistance to achieve their educational goals. Lock Haven University knows that student scholarships can provide students with a better opportunity to succeed at The Haven and is committed to increasing the number of student scholarships it is able to provide to students.

Scholarship funds for needy and worthy students are among the highest priorities of Lock Haven University. Our commitment to seeking significantly more endowed and annual named scholarship funds is driven by our desire to ensure that rising tuition rates do not threaten to put a high quality, value centered education like that offered at the Haven, out of reach for some students. Therefore, Lock Haven University must continue to provide support to academically talented students who are in need of financial aid to continue their education. Endowed scholarship funds and annual named scholarship funds provide both need-based and merit-based financial aid to help offset the cost of tuition.

Through scholarship commitment, donors have a lasting impact on today’s students and the promise of their future careers.

Endowed Scholarships……………………………..$35,000 minimum
Endowed awards are crucial to the future of Lock Haven University because they provide benefits to students for generations. Lock Haven University Foundation invests endowed scholarships to maximize growth while safeguarding the principal, as only the earning on the investment is distributed.

Annual Named Scholarships……..................…$5,000 total commitment ($1,000 per year for 5 years)
Donors can also establish a named annual scholarship, awarded to qualifying students each year that the donor contributes the dollar value of the scholarship. As with an endowed scholarship, LHU Foundation staff work with the donor to define the awarding parameters of the scholarship.

Academic Merit Scholarships
Donors may also establish academic merit scholarships which target students who demonstrate need but also have outstanding academic abilities and a higher educational academic profile.

Four Year Scholarships
The Four Year Scholarship guarantees Lock Haven University will make up the gap between what the student receives in financial aid and the cost of tuition and fees. This award is for a student(s) who are a first time, full time freshman at LHU, completed eight semesters and demonstrates financial need. The student(s) must be close to completion/graduation thus, motivating them to complete their degree in four years.

2014-2015 Case For Support:  Athletic Scholarships

Lock Haven University athletics is focused on increasing the amount of scholarships for the over five hundred student-athletes that participate in intercollegiate athletics at our institution.  Collectively, our athletic teams consistently perform in the classroom, as illustrated with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 last year.  In order to continue to recruit, attract, and retain the best student-athletes, we need to grow our scholarships across all of our athletic programs, which include:

Baseball

Men’s Basketball

Men’s & Women’s Cross Country

Lacrosse

Women’s Soccer

Men’s & Women’s Track & Field

Swimming

Volleyball

Football

Wrestling

Softball

Women’s Basketball

Field Hockey

Men’s Soccer

Our student-athletes gain core values and attributes during their time at Lock Haven University.  The athletic core values of leadership, education, teamwork, service, sportsmanship, and family are the guiding principles and serve as measures of success regardless of the outcome on the playing field.  In addition, they develop life-long characteristics that include care, courage, loyalty, respect, personal accountability, honesty, and humility that prepare our student-athletes for their chosen professions and life after sports.

The Crimson & White Athletics Club provides the platform for you to direct scholarship support to the team of your choice.  Doing so is a clear display of your support for our student-athletes and the important role intercollegiate athletics plays at LHU.

Athletic endowments are another way to provide financial support for intercollegiate athletics.  Named endowments provide coaches with additional support through scholarships that they can depend on for the present and future for their athletic program at LHU.
Support through scholarships and named endowments are a key to the success of athletics at Lock Haven University.  They provide a mechanism for our coaching staff and athletic administration to bring to LHU the quality student athletes that make a difference both in the classroom and on the field.

2014-2015 Case For Support:  Field at Hubert Jack Stadium

There are two potential opportunities at Hubert Jack Stadium.  The field is used for a number of athletic programs including football, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, and outdoor track and field.  In addition, it benefits our athletic program as a large open area for hosting our incoming student athlete fall picnic, as well as our football alumni picnic each spring in conjunction with Crimson & White Weekend and Accepted Student Day.

The field and area is known by many and dates back to the early development of our campus here at Lock Haven University.  The breathtaking view is one of a kind and spectators enjoy watching our programs compete in such a serene atmosphere.

This naming opportunity will provide the donor with space on the field to recognize the generous contribution.  This opportunity will also provide funds allocated for football, men’s and women’s soccer, and track and field scholarship support (designated to the program(s) of choice) or given to athletic scholarships unrestricted to benefit all of our varsity athletic programs at LHU.

In addition, there is the potential for future renovations to the stadium area at Hubert Jack Stadium.  The initial cost would allow us to further evaluate the opportunities including the potential for a new press box, multi-purpose locker rooms with showers, restrooms and divers for expansion, video score board, brick and rod iron perimeter fencing, gateway entrances, and revisions for the parking area.   There would be a room naming opportunity inside the new press box facility for the individual(s) that would support the renderings and plans.

Naming Opportunity:

Field at Hubert Jack Stadium……………………………………………………$300,000
Archiectural Renderings and Plans.....................................................$25,000
